M.O.S.T is the MOST!!

This spring, we hosted another amazing, in-person session of Easter Seals Greater Houston Camp M.O.S.T.! After meeting in the fall for the first time since the pandemic began, we were eager to reunite in person this February. Throughout the weekend, our campers and counselors got to do all their favorite activities at Camp For All—horseback riding, fishing, paintball, and zip-lining! At each session of Camp M.O.S.T. we also host workshops and discussions called “Jam Sessions” designed to help the teens build life skills and encourage self-advocacy. Our first Jam Session was hosted by our very own Transition team from Easter Seals! The teens created “billboards” detailing their skills and abilities to market to future employers; Jacquie and Robert also shared their expertise on going to college, landing a first job, and so much more.

Jacquie and Robert with our High School High Tech and Transition Programs weren’t the only Easter Seals staff visiting camp this weekend! Sawyer Griffin, our Veterans Intake Coordinator, also joined us as a volunteer for the weekend. She shared her experience as a MOST counselor and Easter Seals employee:

“This February, I had the chance to volunteer as a counselor with Camp MOST for the first time. It was an extra special opportunity for me, since it was also my first time volunteering with ESGH since joining their staff last year. I loved getting to spend quality time with some of our young clients, and sharing this experience with them showed me more of the ways our services impact them and their families. More than just a weekend of fun, Camp MOST is setting these young adults up for a bright future by providing them the support and resources they need to advocate for themselves in the real world. It reminded me of why I originally wanted to work at ESGH, and I can’t wait to become a repeat volunteer!”

It’s wonderful to see the overlap between our programs at Easter Seals. When we all come together, you can see how many of amazing staff members are dedicated to our mission of serving and improving the lives of individuals with disabilities!
